Education and Classes for New Mother
Arnot Health hosts a variety of childbirth educational programs each month. Classes range from childbirth education to special sessions on cesarean section, breastfeeding and becoming a sibling. Programs include:

  • Childbirth Education and Parenting Series – 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks. New sessions begin each month.
  • Childbirth Education Refresher Class – 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday’s for four weeks. New sessions begin each month.
  • Childbirth Education Mini-Refresher – 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, one session held each month.
  • Cesarean Section Education Class – 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, one session held each month.
  • Childbirth Education Day Class – 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, held every other month.
  • Sibling Class – 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. one Saturday every other month.

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class
Held the third Wednesday of every month from 7 – 9 p.m., this class is for all expectant mothers and their support persons. It provides parents an opportunity to learn about breastfeeding. This may assist you to make an informed choice regarding infant feeding.

Topics covered include: the advantages of breastfeeding, how to get off to a good start, bonding with Dad and Mom, and how to continue to breastfeeding when going back to work. Breast pump information is also given along with community resources and support programs to follow up with after discharge from the hospital.
